We actively encourage engineers of all backgrounds to apply and be instrumental in shaping the future of automotive technology.    The challenge  Volvo Group certifies aerodynamic drag (CdA) for heavy-duty trucks under EU VECTO regulations through physical testing at proving grounds. We have accumulated a substantial dataset of CdA measurements paired with detailed weather data and logged continuous signals. The aim is to push our understanding further by investigating how much of the test spread and test-to-test variation is driven by environmental conditions.    What you will do  You will work with a large, real-world dataset of aerodynamic test results, as well as weather measurements and continuous logged signals from repeated test runs of a vehicle. Your task is to analyze the data and investigate the physical mechanisms behind CdA variation, due to transient effects for instance.    The work includes:   Statistical analysis of CdA variation against environmental variables across multiple proving grounds  Segment-by-segment signal analysis within individual test runs to identify transient effects that run-averaged data masks  Decomposing CdA scatter into aerodynamic environmental effects, and non-aerodynamic confounders, and unexplained residual  Cross-referencing findings with an existing ML correlation and prediction model     Who you are  Master's student in Engineering Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar  Strong in Python, comfortable working with large, real-world datasets that need cleaning and structuring  Solid grounding in statistics, experience in machine learning or signal analysis is a plus  Independent and structured in your way of working, with high drive and curiosity  Have a sense for the physics behind the numbers    Ready for this challenge?  Send your application today!  We will continuously review applications and conduct interviews, so don't wait to submit yours!  Language: English Starting date: Mid-January 2027 Number of students: 1 Last application date: November 13th.    Ready for the next move?  For further information please contact Rodrigo Estella, Driving Performance Group Manager, rodrigo.estella@volvo.com or Aymane Moutchou, Simulation & Analysis Engineer, aymane.moutchou@volvo.com  We value your data privacy and therefore do not accept applications via mail.    Who we are and what we believe in We are committed to shaping the future landscape of efficient, safe, and sustainable transport solutions.
